Choosing a color palette for your child’s room?  Even if you’re going with the typical blue or pink motif, it should be understood how color can effect mood and behavior, stimulate your child’s brain and body, and even effect their health.  Studies have shown that exposure to certain colors can improve sleeping habits, increase memory power, and enhance academic performance.  Remember that bold shades of warm colors, ones that stimulate the mind and energize the body, are not always the best colors when you’re trying to get the little ones to sleep.  Cool colors have a calming effect and can make your child’s room relaxing but choosing too dark a tone can feel gloomy.  Despite being soothing, cool colors have the potential to make you feel cold and depressed.  You’ll find further explanation on how color affects mind and body on the Color Theory page but try to remember personal preference should always overrule the science behind color.  Do what inspires you and your child.  Consider painting a mural.  A child’s bedroom can be transformed into a fantasy world that encourages imaginative play and awareness of art, introducing a varied palette of colors to the room without being too overwhelming.
